Stephen Harris now full-time FIL Sport Integrity Manager

Salzburg (FIL/31 Aug 2023) As of September 1, 2023, Canadian, Stephen Harris, will join the International Luge Federation (FIL) full-time as the new Sport Integrity Manager as he heads up the newly created FIL Sport Integrity Unit.

The goal of FIL's sport integrity framework is to provide athletes, fans and supporters with the assurance that they are part of a safe, ethical and inclusive environment in which to participate and celebrate sport. The FIL Sport Integrity Unit will oversee the areas of Safe Sport, Injury Prevention, Anti-Doping, Equity-Diversity-Inclusion, Competition Manipulation in Sport and Sustainability. 

"I look forward to opening this new chapter and working with a dedicated group of FIL staff and sport partners to create and implement a framework for sport integrity. The goal is to protect the integrity of the sport of luge in order to ensure a clean and trustworthy sport," said Stephen Harris. Although most of his work will be completed remotely, he will begin his position with the FIL by attending the Safe Sport International Global Conference, with other International Sport Federations (IF's), and then temporarily working out of the FIL office in Berchtesgaden the last part of September to meet with staff and plan strategic priorities for this year.

Stephen Harris was most recently the Manager of Culture, Safety and Risk with Alpine Canada Federation and will transition to the FIL come September. The IOC-certified Safeguarding Officer in Sport comes to the FIL with 25 years of police experience with the Calgary Police Service (CAN), including 6 years as a Detective within Child Abuse/Child Protection and 35 years of Luge experience as an athlete, coach, offical and most recently as President of the Canadian Luge Federation.
