Sigulda (pps) Poland’s Ewelina Staszulonek celebrated a successful comeback in the Viessmann Luge World Cup. One year after her serious crash on the Olympic track in Cesana-Pariol, the 23-year-old achieved an excellent 7th rank at the season’s opener in Innsbruck-Igls. It was the second-best World Cup result of her career after a fifth place at the Viessmann Luge World Cup event in Cesana-Pariol in the 2006-07 season. At the second leg of the current World Cup Staszulonek finished on 18th position.
Last year, Ewelina Staszulonek suffered a serious injury during the international training week prior to the 41st FIL European Championships on the Olympic luge track in Cesana-Pariol. When she crashed at the end of curve 18, she suffered a compound fracture to her left leg that needed several surgeries. “It still hurts a bit, but that’s quite normal after such an injury”, she said at the season’s opener in Igls. Her leg is currently fixed with a metal plate and six screws.
