Park City (RWH) Summer Britcher from the USA and Austrian Wolfgang Kindl have taken the lead in the overall Viessmann World Cup rankings following their victories in the BMW Sprint World Cup. Experienced Italians Christian Oberstolz/Patrick Gruber ended the German team’s streak of 15 World Cup wins in the men’s doubles event. These are the main results of the first BMW Sprint World Cup of the season, staged on the 2002 Olympic track in Park City, Utah.
Summer Britcher replaced her teammate Erin Hamlin as overall leader of the Viessmann World Cup standings when she took her second World Cup win in 24 hours. The silver medallist at the 2015 U23 World Championships now has 325 points after four of twelve events, ahead of Olympic bronze medallist Erin Hamlin on 316 points. Dajana Eitberger from Germany again finished third behind 2009 World Champion Hamlin, and is also third in the overall standings with 279 points.
Wolfgang Kindl has taken the lead in the Viessmann World Cup on 325 points, the first Austrian to do so since Markus Kleinheinz, who won the overall classification in 2002/2003. The 2015 World Championship bronze medallist relegated Italian Dominik Fischnaller and Olympic Champion Felix Loch of Germany to second and third respectively. The American Chris Mazdzer, winner of the Viessmann World Cup just a few hours earlier ahead of Kindl and Loch, lost the top spot in the overall World Cup standings by finishing 14th in the BMW Sprint, but retains second place on 270 points ahead of Fischnaller (267 points).
Italian duo Christian Oberstolz/Patrick Grube were the last non-German winners of the Viessmann World Cup on 25 January 2015. The 2015 World Championship bronze medallists once again put an end to the German dominance in the men’s doubles event. With the 17th World Cup victory of their career, the 2014 European Champions relegated the two German duos of Olympic Champions Tobias Wendl/Tobias Arlt and defending World Cup champions Toni Eggert/Sascha Benecken, who have taken all World Cup victories since Oberstolz/Gruber, to second and third positions.
Eggert/Benecken (33) continue to lead the overall standings ahead of Austrians Peter Penz/Georg Fischler (399), who came fourth in the BMW Sprint, and Wendl/Arlt (297).
