Summer Britcher defends USA Luge National Championship

Lake Placid (RWH) Summer Britcher successfully defended her USA Luge National Championship in Lake Placid, while Jonny Gustafson grabbed his first Norton crown.

Over three-quarters of a mile, Britcher, of Glen Rock, Pa., held off 2019 World Championship bronze medalist Emily Sweeney by merely 0.006 of a second to capture the crown, with Brittney Arndt third. Gustafson won ahead Sean Hollander. Zack DiGregorio, from Medway, Mass., slid into third place.

Tucker West, a 2014 and 2018 Olympic team member from Ridgefield, Conn., crashed as he approached the conclusion of his opening run and did not finish the race. Chris Mazdzer, of Salt Lake City, the 2018 Olympic silver medalist, is sidelined until later this month and did not compete.
