Two hundreds of a second ahead Ukraine’s Natalia Yakuschenko
Sigulda (pps) World Champion Tatjana Hüfners saved the longest winning streak ever in the history of an Olympic discipline for Germany. The defending Champion of Viessmann Luge World Cup won the race in Sigulda /Latvia) with an advantage of two hundreds of a second ahead Ukraine’s Natalia Yakuschenko. Germany’ now owns 83 consecutive victories in the Viessmann Luge World Cup. For Tatjana Hüfners was it the 9th victory in a row, and the 12th overall. Ukraine’s Natalia Yakushenko was so disappointed, that she missed the victory ceremony. Third place behind Hüfner (1:26,452) and Yakushenko (1:26,472) went to Anke Wischnewski (0,191 seconds back).
The last Winner, who didn’t come from, Germany was on November 29th 1997 Austria’s Andrea Tagwerker at Königssee. After this success Germany won 83 races in a row. The lion’s share had Silke Kraushaar-Pielach, Olympic Champion 1998 and World Champion 2004, with 33 victories during this period, the two-times Olympic Champion Sylke Otto with 30 successes and the reigning World Champion Tatjana Hüfner, who contributes now twelve victories. Barbara Niedernhuber (five), Sonja Wiedemann (two) and Anke Wischnewski (one) shared the rest of eight victories.
