Tatyana Ivanova, Roman Repilov and Eggert/Benecken take victory at the BMW Sprint World Cup

Sigulda (RWH): Russia’s Tatyana Ivanova, her fellow compatriot Roman Repilov and Toni Eggert/Sascha Benecken (GER) are the winners at the BMW Sprint World Cup in the Latvian town of Sigulda. The competition to find the overall winners, determined by adding up the times from all three BMW Sprint World Cup events this winter, saw Natalie Geisenberger (GER), Repilov (RUS) and Eggert/Benecken (GER) make it into the International Luge Federation (FIL) history books.
Tatyana Ivanova (RUS) became the sixth luger to take the top spot in the final winter season prior to the Olympics. The two-time European Champion and 2016 World Championship bronze medallist finished first ahead of Natalie Geisenberger (GER) and Victoria Demchenko (RUS). In the overall standings for the Viessmann World Cup, Geisenberger now holds 697 points to extend her lead over Tatjana Hüfner (GER / 635) and Erin Hamlin (494) of the USA.
In the men’s event, Roman Repilov took his second win of the season. Fellow Russian Semen Pavlichenko, the current European Champion, finished second ahead of Wolfgang Kindl of Austria. Repilov leads the overall standings with 647 points ahead of Pavlichenko (600) and Kindl (576).
In the doubles event, Toni Eggert/Sascha Benecken achieved their seventh win of the season to further their lead in the overall standings. The two-time European Champions beat the Latvians Oskars Gudramovics/Peteris Kalnins and fellow Germans Tobias Wendl/Tobias Arlt into the top spot. Eggert/Benecken are now leading the standings with 855 points. Wendl/Arlt are in second with 673 points. They are followed in third place by USA’s Matt Mortensen/Jayson Terdiman (501).
