Whistler (pps) Canada’s luge team will not compete in the Viessmann Luge World Cup final in Sigulda, Latvia. The team of head coach Wolfgang Staudinger (Germany) travelled back home instead in order to perform the first official runs on the future Olympic track in Whistler. The artificially-iced track is already completed, the first test runs for the luge events are planned to be carried out in the last weeks of February.

In order to guarantee optimum conditions, the Canadian Luge Association has opened up a branch office in Whistler. According to Tim Farstad, Executive Director within the Canadian Luge Association, this will not only help athletes gain familiarity with the track. “It is also an opportuniy for the national body to educate and grow our sport while inspiring the next generation of Olympic luge athletes”, Farstad explained.
