Team Italy appointed for 2021/22 Olympic season

Milan (FIL) Five female and ten male athletes from South Tyrol have been appointed by the Italian Winter Sports Federation FISI to the national luge team for the Olympic winter 2021/22. The experienced Olympians Dominik Fischnaller from Mühlbach, Andrea Vötter (Völs) and the double Ludwig Rieder/Patrick Rastner (Mühlbach and Lüsen) lead the young team.
Third at the 2018 European Championships in Sigulda, 25-year-old Sandra Robatscher from Tiers will make her comeback at the start of the season after two shoulder operations.
The 28-year-old Dominik Fischnaller had finished a very close fourth at the 2018 Winter Olympics in PyengChang, Korea. The 6-time World Cup winner wants to race for medals in Beijing 2022, just like his cousin Kevin Fischnaller, who is the same age and won his first World Cup in the winter of 2020/21.

The team is completed by the young athletes Verena Hofer (Feldthurns), Marion Oberhofer (Rodeneck) and Nina Zöggeler (Lana). Leon Felderer (Klausen) and Lukas Gufler (St. Martin Passeier) are also in the men's national team. In addition to Rieder/Rastner, the strong Italian doubles in the Olympic squad also include Emanuel Rieder/Simon Kainzwaldner (Mühlbach/Villanders) and the young team Ivan Nagler/Fabian Malleier (St. Martin in Thurn/Lana), who already qualified for the Olympic Winter Games in PyeongChang (KOR) as juniors in 2018 and convinced with seventh place in the doubles and fifth place in the team relay.
All nominated athletes are candidates for the 2022 Olympic Winter Games in Beijing. The Olympic nomination will be made after the seventh EBERSPÄCHER World Cup in Sigulda, Latvia.
