Oberhof (pps) Latvia is the European Team Relay champion, the US team won the SUZUKI Team Relay event in Lake Placid; Austria’s team proved to be a cut above the rest in Winterberg and the German squad achieved the victory in Koenigssee. Four different winners in four events – this accounts, in short, for the excitement of the FIL Team Relay that will be carried out for the first time in the history of the International Luge Federation, FIL, at World Championships.

But not only the season’s winners might be considered among the medal contenders. Additionally, there are the teams from Canada, runners-up in Koenigssee, European bronze medallist Italy and even Russia. Even prior to the World Championship première the athletes are convinced that the FIL Team Relay will be a total success. “The relay event is not only a lot of fun for the spectators but for the athletes too”, Olympic bronze medallist Martins Rubenis said after Latvia’s sensational success in the Team Relay event at the European Championships.
