Luge Athletes to have their final rehearsal at the World Cup final Sochi (pps) The countdown begins: Exactly 500 days to go until the start of fhe XXII Olympic Winter Games in Sochi, Russia. After the Opening Ceremony on February 7, 2014 in the Olympic Stadium the athletes of the International Luge Federation, FIL (Fédération Internationale de Luge de Course) will leave the coast on the Black Sea towards the East. At the “Sanki Sliding Center” of Rzhanaya Polyana at an altitude of about 1.250m in the Caucasus, Olympic medals in four luge events (men’s and women’s singles, doubles and Team Relay Event) will be at stake from February 8-13, 2014. One year earlier however, the newly build artificially refrigerated track with a capacity for 5.000 spectators will see the final of the 2012-2013 Viessmann Luge World Cup final as a final rehearsal for the Olympic Games. At the ninth and last season’s World Cup event the crystal awards for the overall World Cup winners will be presented.
