The first FIL Luge Junior World Cup on Natural Track took place on the last day of 2019 at Winterleiten in Styria. In ideal conditions and a record-breaking number of participants, the favorites prevailed in the single-seater.

Fabian Achenrainer (AUT) was the fastest in the training runs on Monday and in the race on Tuesday the 19-year-old clearly won in 2: 28.66 minutes, on 2nd position Florian Haselrieder (ITA / + 1.05 seconds) and Fabian Brunner (ITA / + 2.27) 3rd.

The two fastest women in the training, Lisa Walch (GER) and Nadine Staffler (ITA), battled for the victory. After the first run the Italian was in the lead, in the decisive second run Walch pushed very hard and took the opening win with just 0.12 seconds ahead of Staffler. Riccarda Ruetz (AUT) finished 3rd, 1.32 seconds back. On Monday there was a one-two-three for Austria in the doubles.

“It was a great race, around 80 athletes from 14 nations started. The track is in perfect condition and absolutely ready for the World Cup kick-off from 3 to 5 January 2020, ”said Andreas Castiglioni, FIL Director for Sport and Technology Natural Track.

The next Junior World Cup will be held on January 4th and 5th, 2020 on the new track in Jaufental (ITA).
