Altenberg (RWH) All good things come in threes: Natalie Geisenberger of Germany is the overall winner of the Viessmann Luge World Cup for the third time in succession after 2012/2013 and 2013/2014. After her eighth victory of the season in Altenberg (GER), the 2014 Olympic Champion and two-times World Champion goes into the last two races as the clear winner of the Joska Crystal Cup. With a lead of 259 points, the 27-year-old can no longer be overtaken in the overall standings, no matter what result she returns in the FIL Sprint World Cup on Sunday afternoon in Altenberg and the final race of the season in Sochi, Russia. In the 31st individual World Cup victory of her career, Natalie Geisenberger relegated teammates Tatjana Hüfner and Dajana Eitberger to second and third. US luger Erin Hamlin, who took bronze at the 2014 Sochi Olympics, was fourth. Fifth place went to Anke Wischnewski, who ends her career after the season. Natalie Geisenberger is followed in the overall Viessmann World Cup rankings by Dajana Eitberger with 666 points. 2010 Olympic Champion and four-times World Champion Tatjana Hüfner is third with 622 points. Sunday afternoon will see the FIL Sprint World Cup in Altenberg, the eleventh of the twelve World Cup races this season. The final race will be run next weekend, 28 February and 1 March 2015 in Sochi (RUS). Quotes Natalie Geisenberger (GER / 2014 Olympic Champion and 2013 and 2014 World Champion) “I’m really proud to have won the overall World Cup for the third time in succession. These are trophies I really enjoy looking at. Of course I don’t have to win every race, but the World Championship title and the overall World Cup mean I’ve achieved my most important goals.”
