Königssee (pps) Natalie Geisenberger is making the Viessmann World Cup her own in this pre-Olympic winter. The 2012 World Championship bronze medallist celebrated her third victory of the season in the fifth round of the racing series being held on the famous artificial track in Königssee, a victory that was also her thirteenth overall in the luge singles. The 2010 Olympic bronze medallist from Germany beat teammates Carina Schwab and Aileen Frisch down to second and third.
Carina Schwab has come second in the Viessmann World Cup before, in Paramonovo in the 2010/2011 season, while for Junior World Champion Frisch this was the best result of her career.
Natalie Geisenberger continues to head the overall rankings with 470 points. Anke Wischnewski, who came fifth in Königssee, is second with 370 points, and Russia's Tatiana Ivanova is third with 280 points.
The sixth round in the Viessmann World Cup will be held next weekend, 12/13 January 2013, on the artificial track in Oberhof. The races in Thuringia will also count as the 44th European Championships of the International Luge Federation (FIL).
Quotes
Natalie Geisenberger (GER, 2010 Olympic bronze medallist and 2012 World Championship bronze medallist)
"I was absolutely determined to win this race. When our two young sliders came over the finish line I knew they'd had a good race, but at the moment I'm just enjoying myself in the luge. Anyway, the atmosphere's great in our team, and we do a lot together."
Carina Schwab (GER, 2010 Junior World Champion and sixth in the 2011 World Championships)
"I'd hoped for a place in the first six, so to come second is great."
Aileen Frisch (GER, 2012 Junior World Champion)
"I love racing here, but this is just not my weather. I'll be working on keeping up, now."
