Lake Placid (RWH) Toni Eggert and Sascha Benecken continue to be unbeaten this post-Olympic winter. After their double victory in Innsbruck-Igls, Germany’s 2012 and 2013 World Championship silver medallists have won their third race of the season and their 6th ever individual world cup in the second round of the Viessmann World Cup in Lake Placid in the US state of New York. Eggert-Benecken, who came eighth at the Olympics, were followed onto the podium by Olympic Champions, World Champions and defending World Cup titleholders Tobias Wendl and Tobias Arlt of Germany. Peter Penz and Georg Fischler of Austria came on the track that hosted the 1932 and 1980 Winter Olympics. Eggert-Benecken continue to head the overall Viessmann World Cup rankings with the highest possible score of 300. Penz-Fischler are second with 225 points and Wendl/Arlt third with 215. The next round in the Viessmann World Cup will be held next Friday and Saturday (12¬-13 December) in Calgary, Canada. Quotes Toni Eggert (GER, 2012 and 2013 World Championship silver medallist) “The first run was OK, and we got ourselves a good lead. In the second run we hit a wall in curve 13, but we didn't end up across the track. Three victories on two tracks are good, but aren't really all that significant.” Tobias Wendl (GER, 2014 Olympic Champion, 2013 World Champion and three-time overall World Cup winner) “We’re on an upwards trend: fourth and third in Igls, second here.” Peter Penz (AUT, 2012 European Champion) “To come third after our poor showing in training is really good. We hadn’t expected it at all. What we’re missing, particularly on hard ice here, is the Linger brothers to compare ourselves to. But they've retired. And we miss the odd bit of advice they gave us, too.”
