Innsbruck-Igls (RWH) Doubles team Toni Eggert and Sascha Benecken of Germany have won their third victory in a Viessmann World Cup at the luge season opening in Innsbruck-Igls. In a repeat of their victory last season on the artificial track at the foot of the Patscherkofel, Eggert-Benecke, who came eighth at Sochi 2014, beat the Russian duo of Vladislav Yuzhakov and Valdimir Prokhorov down to second place. Austria's Peter Penz and Georg Fischler came third after finishing the first run down at seventh. Olympic Champions and defending titleholders Tobias Wendl and Tobias Arlt finished the race in fourth. Quotes Toni Eggert (GER, 2012 and 2013 World Championship runner-up) “We don’t want to make too much of this success. We know that other teams are still testing their material.” Vladislav Yuzhakov (RUS) “That was my first race with my new partner, Valdimir Prokhorov. And we came in second straight off. I’m more than satisfied.” Georg Fischler (AUT, 2012 European Champion) “The first run was full of mistakes, and the second wasn’t perfect, either. So coming third is a really good result. The retirement of the Linger brothers left us without anyone to compare ourselves with during preparation, and we didn’t really know where we stood internationally. On the other hand, that made our training during preparation a bit more relaxed.”
