Dr Thomas Bach re-elected as IOC President

Lausanne (FIL) Olympic champion Dr Thomas Bach was re-elected for a second, four-year term as President of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) on 3 March 2021. At the 137th IOC Session, which was held virtually, the 67-year-old German received 93 votes in favour and one against out of 94 valid votes.
Thomas Bach, who won gold with the German foil fencing team at the 1976 Olympic Games in Montreal (CAN), was elected IOC President for a first eight-year term at the 2013 IOC Session in Buenos Aires (ARG).
After the election, President Bach said: "I thank you from the bottom of my heart for this overwhelming vote of confidence..... You know that it touches me deeply. But it also makes me humble. When you first elected me as your President in Buenos Aires in 2013, I said that I wanted to lead the IOC according to my campaign motto 'Unity in Diversity' and be a President for all of you and for all of our stakeholders. This commitment continues for my second and final term. My door, my ears and my heart remain open to each and every one of you. I hope that I can continue to count on your commitment, support and friendship during these four more years."
