Oberhof (pps) Three years after his first World Championship title in 2008, Germany’s Felix Loch earned his third victory in the Viessmann Luge World Cup in Oberhof. At the sixth stop of the World Cup series the Olympic champion defeated no less than three compatriots, who all fought for first place.

Setting the fastest time in the secund run Loch defeated Andi Langenhan who failed to repeat last year’s success by 0.232 seconds. Olympic runner-up David Moeller (0.443 seconds behind) took third place ahead of Jan Einhorn (0.471 seconds).

Quotes

Felix Loch (GER / 2010 Olympic champion, two-time World champion)

“After the World Cup in Koenigssee we just wanted to show Armin Zoeggeler, Albert Demchenko and the others that we still know how to luge. The key to success today – a fine-tuned sled and two clean runs. Well, the second run was very good. And the start was even better than in the first run, I was able to take off five hundredths of a seconds. Having already an eye on the World Championships I’m really pleased with this result.

Andi Langenhan (GER / 2008 World runner-up, 2010 Olympic 5th-placed)

“I blundered in the second run. I started too early going into curve nine and I knew right away that I could never get back into an ideal line until curve eleven. I knew I’d be losing too much time to oust Felix from first place.”

David Moeller (GER / Olympic runner-up and two-time World champion)

“Of course you could say that the German team has fought back successfully. But you should always keep in mind that we practise a lot here and that we’ve had a lot of runs on this track, too.”
