Thuringia Festival set to continue in Oberhof

Oberhof, Germany (RWH) The Thuringian contingent dominated the 47th World Championships of the International Luge Federation (FIL) in Innsbruck last weekend – a quartet of Thuringian lugers won gold in the team relay, Tatjana Hüfner set a new record by clinching her fifth World Championship gold, Toni Eggert/Sascha Benecken won their first doubles world title, and Johannes Ludwig narrowly missed out on a medal by finishing fourth in the men’s race. Next up is the 7th Viessmann World Cup of the season in Oberhof, Thuringia’s winter sports capital, on February 4-5, 2017.
The Thuringia Festival could well continue after the success of the World Championships in Innsbruck last weekend, as Toni Eggert/Sascha Benecken can put themselves beyond reach in the Viessmann World Cup by winning their home race. A victory would give them a 200-point advantage in the overall standings, and the newly crowned World Champions could then afford to finish 24th and last to score 17 points in the final two Viessmann World Cups of the season in PyeongChang, Korea (February 18-19, 2017) and in Altenberg, Saxony (February 24-25, 2017).
There is plenty of excitement in store during the men’s and women’s Viessmann World Cup and the Viessmann Team Relay World Cup presented by BMW. A total of 25 nations have registered to compete in Oberhof, following last weekend’s record number of 27 nations at the World Championships.
