Toni Eggert suffers major injury

Oberhof (RWH) Germany’s Toni Eggert, together with Sascha Benecken reigning World Champion and bronze medallist of the Olympic Winter Games 2018 in PyeongChang, has suffered a major injury during a training session in Oberhof. The double pair crashed in the “Kreisel”. Eggert suffered a fracture of his right leg. Probably he will miss the season opener at the end of November. Eggert, overall winner of the Viessmann Luge World Cup in the past two seasons, was transported to the hospital of Suhl, where he underwent surgery. Together with their team-mates Tobias Wendl-Tobias Arlt, two-times Olympic Champions in doubles, Eggert-Benecken dominated the Viessmann World Cup in the past years. In the Olympic Winter 2017-2018 Eggert-Benecken, who have been European Champions in 2018 and 2016, won ten of 13 races. They are one of the favourites for the 48th Luge World Championships, which will be held in Winterberg and the end of January 2019.
