Koenigssee (pps) A new TV graphic was presented by the International Luge Federation (FIL/Fédération Internationale de Luge de Course) and its technology partner Swiss Timing at the second stop of the Viessmann Luge World Cup in Koenigssee in early December. The graphics innovation will become a permanent feature of the World Cup series in the pre-Olympic season – so in Altenberg, too. To date intermediate times were usually registered at four positions during a run, indicating the time difference to the current leader in the left lower part of the screen and marked in green (athlete on track ahead of the leading time) or red (athlete behind the leading time). Apart from those intermediate times additional measuring points exist at all tracks. The number of split times shall not be increased to prevent from “overloading” the action on screen with too much graphics and data. However, in order to show how driving mistakes affect the running time right away, the running time on the right part of the screen will change to green (ahead) or red (behind) as soon as the athlete passes the additional measuring points. Intermediate times with the indication of the time difference to the current leader will only be indicated at the “regular” split times. This procedure enables the audience to continuously discover if the athlete on track is in the lead or needs to close the gap to the current leader. This visual color change helps to discover right away if, and to which extend, a mistake affects the running time of the athlete on track. Minor mistakes can be assigned to specific sections of the track.
