Two centimeters ahead: Thrird victory for double Steu / Koller
Altenberg (FIL): It could hardly be more exciting: At the EBERSPÄCHER World Cup in Altenberg, Thomas Steu and Lorenz Koller (AUT) were 0.008 seconds faster than the pairing of Toni Eggert and Sascha Benecken (GER). Or to put it differently: The Austrians were two centimeters ahead of the World Champions from Germany. This was Steu/Koller's third success in a row after their wins at the EBERSPÄCHER World Cup and BMW Sprint at home in Innsbruck-Igls. "It is of course cool to win by eight thousandths", said Steu. However, he was not completely satisfied with their performance: "The runs were not perfect, we made a lot of small mistakes, but the others obviously did too.“
After the best time in the first run, Toni Eggert was of course disappointed with the outcome: "We lost time in curve 14 in the second run, and we drifted into it”. Such a drift costs a lot of time and momentum. At eight thousandths - that would have been a big mistake. So the doubles team will have to wait for their 44th victory, which would bring them up to Tobias Wendl/Tobias Arlt.

The Olympic champions finished the race on the challenging track in Altenberg in third place, only 0.019 seconds behind. After fourth place in Innsbruck it is clear that the “trend is right, the sled has a good speed" - this was Wendl's analysis. In the second run, her sled lurched a little. "We don't know if it was the wind or if we made a driving mistake", Tobias Wendl described the situation, "it pushed quite a bit to the left, although we wanted to go to the right. It could be that the wind was involved. But tobogganing is a racing sport and an outdoor sport".
