Tyrol referendum on 15 October to decide on 2026 Olympic bid

Innsbruck (RWH) Voters in Tyrol will go to the polls on 15 October 2017 to decide whether Innsbruck should apply to host the Winter Olympic Games in 2026. The citizens of Tyrol will be asked to respond to the following referendum question: “Should the Tyrol region submit a bid to host sustainable, economically and ecologically justifiable Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games in Innsbruck in 2026?”
If awarded to the region, the Winter Games must be traditional, sustainable and, above all, cost-effective. “The state of Tyrol will only ever host sustainable, economically and ecologically feasible Olympic Games that are tailored to the local region”, emphasised Governor of Tyrol Günther Platter. He also stated that the Innsbruck/Tyrol bid would be for “our Games, according to our rules. There can only be a contract with the IOC if our terms are met”.
