Zwickau (pps) Numerous mourners from the International Luge Federation (FIL) headed by President Josef Fendt paid their last respects to the deceased Karl Zenker. At a memorial service held on Zwickau main cemetery on Thursday, August 2, 2007, Fendt recognized the life achievements of the long-time chairman of the Sport Commission and FIL Executive Board member, who had died on July 7 after a long illness.

Besides FIL President Fendt, the urn burial was attended by the Vice-Presidents Einars Fogelis (Latvia) and Werner Kropsch (Austria), the President of the Austrian luge federation, Friedel Ludescher, and the President of the Czech luge federation, Drahoslav Husek. Other mourners were Executive Director Hartmut Kardaetz, FIL Sport Coordinator Karl-Heinz Anschütz, Walter Plaikner as the chairman of the Technical Commission as well as German head coach Thomas Schwab, Austria’s Sport Coordinator Robert Manzenreiter, coach Rene Friedel and the commission member Norbert Huber from Italy.
During the urn burial, Josef Ploner, the chairman of the Technical Commission natural track, played a festive piece of music on his trumpet.
