Berchtesgaden (pps) Following the announcement of the closing of the Olympic artificial track in Cesana, Italy, the International Luge Federation (FIL) is looking for an alternative venue for the Viessmann World Cup scheduled on December 1-2, 2012. The second stop of the World Cup series was awarded to Cesana. “There are various alternatives available, but we will announce the decision only when the plans are finalized. This will happen in the near future”, explains Executive Director Christoph Schweiger. In a letter to the international federations for luge (FIL) and bobsleigh and skeleton (FIBT), the President of the Italian sport governing body (FISI), Flavio Roda, stated that the track owner, Parcolimpico S.r.I., is not able to guarantee the regular operation of the track, despite the massive financial, organizational, and political efforts of the local communities and the hotels on-site. The artificial track, two hours drive northwest of Turin, which like various other sport venues from the 2006 Olympic Winter Games in Turin belongs to Parcolimpico S.r.I., was not only the scene of Olympic races. Cesana hosted the 42nd FIL World Championships in 2011, the 41st FIL European Championships in 2008, and three events in the Viessmann World Cup.
