Greatest success bronze in 2008 European Championships Innsbruck (pps) Austria’s Veronika Halder, who came in third in the 2008 European Luge Championships in Cesana, Italy, has ended her career. The Tyrolean athlete, who will celebrate her 31st birthday on October 14, will now start her job training. Veronika Halder competed in two Winter Olympic Games, coming in fifth in the 2006 Turin Olympics. Four years later in Vancouver, she was twelfth. In addition to third place in the 2008 European Championships – her only medal in singles – she won two silver medals in the Austrian Team Relay at the 2008 and 2010 European Championships. Halder came in fifth in the 2003 and 2004 World Championships and achieved her best Viessmann World Cup ranking in the winter of 2003/2004, again in fifth place. Sport Coordinator Robert Manzenreiter and Head Coach René Friedl will be pinning their hopes this winter on Olympic silver medallist Nina Reithmayer and the 18 year-old hopefuls Mona Wabnigg and Birgit Platzer.
