Koenigssee (pps) Jubiliee for Tatjana Huefner of Germany: In Koenigssee, the Olympic and three-time World Champion celebrated her 30th individual win in the Viessmann Luge World Cup. At her second victory this season the 28-year-old defeated team-mate Natalie Geisenberger to second place. Due to a big mistake at the exit of the “Echowand” the Olympic bronze medalist and three-time World runner-up failed to post her second victory this season. Similar to last year, Canada’s Alex Gough finished in third position ahead of Corinna Martini of Germany.
Arianne Jones (CAN) achieved a career-best seventh place, former World Champion Erin Hamlin (USA) finished in 11th position.
Tatjana Huefner has widened her lead in the overall Viessmann Luge World Cup rankings, with 370 points she is now clearly ahead of Alex Gough (300) and Natalie Geisenberger (295).
Quotes
Tatjana Huefner
(GER /2010 Olympic and three-time World Champion)
“It was a poor first run. But then I was surely a bit lucky because Natalie made such a big mistake. Well, perhaps there is a poetic justice..:”
Natalie Geisenberger (GER / Olympic bronze medalist and three-time World runner-up)
“There’s no denying it – I simply made a big mistake at the ‘Echowand’ exit. It already happened to me several times this year. I’ve chucked away good results far too often.”
Alex Gough
(CAN / 2011 World bronze medalist)
“That’s the same result as last year and I’m really quite happy with it.”
