Hat trick for Tobias Wendl/Tobias Arlt

7th EBERSPAECHER Luge World Cup in Oberhof

Wendl / Arlt, Oberhof 2 2026

Oberhof (FIL/24 Jan 2026) Tobias Wendl and Tobias Arlt have achieved a hat trick in the EBERSPAECHER Luge World Cup. After Winterberg and Oberhof a week ago, the six-time Olympic champions from Germany also secured victory on the second weekend in Oberhof. With two fastest times, they achieved their 60th World Cup victory. And in the first run, they also improved their track record, set 364 days ago, by two thousandths of a second to 41.274 seconds. In total, they finished in 1:22.575 minutes. However, not everything went perfectly between the two Tobis, at least in the second run. At the start, frontman Wendl wanted to make six paddle strokes, while bottomman Arlt had already leaned back after five. But even such minor coordination errors did not throw them off course. “The winning performance is unimaginably good,” said Wendl, “we completely messed up the start curve again. Now we're just happy to be back on track.”

Podium Herren Doppel, Oberhof 2026

Before the start, the duo of Thomas Steu and Wolfgang Kindl had adapted and rebuilt their sled to the hard ice. “Quasi everything,” said Kindl. As a result, the two Austrians finished second, 0.152 seconds behind. Their compatriots Juri Gatt and Riccardo Schöpf followed 0.210 seconds behind. World champions Hanns Orlamünder and Paul Gubitz narrowly missed out on the podium. They were 0.227 seconds slower than the winners. “It's a shame that we came fourth again,” said Orlamünder, briefly annoyed, “at least we picked up the pace at the start, but unfortunately we struggled on the track.”

The German duo benefited from a less than perfect run by Ivan Nagler and Fabian Malleier. The two Italians had problems in turn eleven and therefore did not come out cleanly. As a result, they only managed the seventh-fastest time. After being in third place at the halfway point, they ended up 0.267 seconds behind in fifth place. Behind them were veteran Toni Eggert and his young partner Florian Müller. The Germans were 0.283 seconds behind. They relegated Latvians Martins Bots/Roberts Plume (0.327) to seventh place.
