Oberhof (pps) First World Cup victory for Toni Eggert and Sascha Benecken: The German team took the podium’s top spot in the doubles at the Viessmann Luge World Cup in Oberhof (Germany). The World 10th-placed defeated their teammates Tobias Wendl-Tobias Arlt (0.231 seconds behind) to second place. Austria’s two-time Olympic Champions Andreas and Wolfgang Linger secured third place, being 0.665 seconds behind the winners. With a total of 410 points to their credit, Linger-Linger are still heading the overall Viessmann Luge World Cup rankings ahead of Wendl-Arlt (395 points). After five of altogether nine events of the World Cup series, Germany’s Eggert-Benecken (355 points) are on third place. Toni Eggert (GER/10th at the 2011 Worlds; fourth in the 2011 overall Viessmann Luge World Cup series) “The track in Oberhof is a bit rough, but that’s its character. Even though everyone knows about it, we managed to make up for our lack in experience by having an home-advantage. It was a top-class event but we were optimistic about our prospects.” Tobias Wendl (GER/2011 overall Viessmann Luge World Cup winner) “We’re having quite a run at the moment. Even though I have to admit that both our runs today weren’t perfect. So much the better that it was enough to secure us the second place.” Andreas Linger (AUT/2006 and 2010 Olympic Champion; 2003 and 2011 World Champion) “We’re always happy to make it on the podium in Oberhof. These are the most important weeks for us bearing the overall Viessmann Luge World Cup in mind. And to be honest – Oberhof is not really among our favourite tracks. This is why we’re all the more happy about the result.”
