Oberhof (pps) Second season’s victory for Germany’s Natalie Geisenberger on the luge track in Oberhof: Celebrating her ninth individual Viessmann Luge World Cup victory, World silver medalist Geisenberger defeated her teammate and Olympic Champion Tatjana Huefner to second place (0.247 seconds behind). Third place went to Germany’s Anke Wischnewski (0.664 seconds behind). The overall 2011 World Cup third-placed thus claimed her second podium spot this winter following a second place at the season-opener in Igls (AUT). Tatjana Huefner defended her lead in the overall World Cup standings (455 points). Thanks to her victory in Oberhof, Natalie Geisenberger (395 points) improved from third to second place. After five of altogether nine events of the World Cup series, Canadian Alex Gough, winner in Calgary and fourth in Oberhof, is currently on third place with 360 points to her credit. Quotes Natalie Geisenberger (GER / 2010 Olympic bronze medalist; 2008 European Champion; 2008 and 2009 World runner-up) “I wanted to go on the offensive here in Oberhof. After all, Tatjana managed to defeat me back home in Koenigssee. I’ve repeatedly botched a run, letting a sure victory slip away. But today I’ve managed two good runs. To be quite honest – I can hardly show a better performance than today. Tatjana Huefner (GER / 2010 Olympic Champion; 2007, 2008 and 2011 World Champion) “Well, I believe that the second place here is a positive thing. I couldn’t have done better. Especially so with that big mistake in my first run.” Anke Wischnewski (GER / 2007 World silver medalist; overall World Cup third-placed in 2007, 2009, 2010 and 2011) “I’m really happy about my third place. It will give me a boost for the upcoming World Cup events. However, the other nations won’t really make things easy so that we can just claim all the podium spots.”
