virtuelle WM-Eröffnung 2021

Königssee (FIL) The 50th FIL Luge World Championships in Berchtesgaden-Königssee were opened virtually from the ice arena on Thursday, January 28, 2021. FIL President Einars Fogelis with his speech gave the start for the World title competitions in the coming three days.

After the greetings by Bernhard Kern, District Administrator of Berchtesgadener Land, and video interviews with the two mayors Hannes Rasp (Schönau am Königssee) and Franz Rasp (Berchtesgaden), there was a favorites talk.

Natalie Geisenberger, Madeleine Egle, Felix Loch, Dominik Fischnaller, Tobias Wendl/Tobias Arlt and Thomas Steu / Lorenz Koller talked about the World Championships‘ track, its key spots, personal prospects and of course the weather to be expected, which could be a challenge for everyone. Between the rounds of talks, "Professor Luge" - aka Rupert Staudinger (GBR) - humorously explained in short videos how the sport of luge really works.

The welcoming of the 23 participating nations was recorded in short sequences during the training by the regional TV station RFO and presented in a nine-minute video.
