Natalie Geisenberger and Jan Eichhorn new national German champions Oberhof (pps) Natalie Geisenberger and Jan Eichhorn both captured their second title at the national German Championships carried out on the artificially-iced track in Oberhof. On the other hand, European silver medallists Tobias Wendl-Tobias Arlt took their first national title in doubles. Olympic bronze medallist Natalie Geisenberger thus repeated her 2008 success and relegated Olympic champion Tatjana Huefner, who set up a new track record in her first run, to second place. Defending champion Anke Wischnewski finished on third position. Six years after his first national title Jan Eichorn snagged his second victory. The luger from Thuringia, who had failed to qualify for the 2010 Olympic Winter Games, prevailed over Olympic silver medallist David Moeller by just a hair’s breadth. In his first run two-time World champion Moeller had set up a new track record. Andi Langenhan, fifth at the Olympic Winter Games, finished on third place. Being on sixth place after the first run, Olympic champion Felix Loch was forced to retire due to injury. After the retirement of Olympic bronze medallists Patric Leitner-Alexander Resch as well as André Florschuetz-Torsten Wustlich, the way was paved for the young lugers Tobias Wendl-Tobias Arlt. Second place went to the new doubles tandem Toni Eggert-Sascha Benecken.
