Winterberg (pps) European silver medallists Tobias Wendl-Tobias Arlt continue the German tradition of good results in the doubles’. At the fifth stop of the Viessmann Luge World Cup series in Koenigssee the “local heroes” already celebrated their third victory this season. Simultaneously, earning their altogether sixth success in the Viessmann Luge World Cup, Wendl-Arlt even increased their lead in the overall rankings.
Thus the 2008 World silver medallists seem to successfully follow in the footsteps of the two German doubles’ teams with Patric Leitner-Alexander Resch (2002 Olympic champions and six times overall Viessmann Luge World Cup winners) and André Florschuetz-Torsten Wustlich (2006 Olympic silver medallists and last year’s overall World Cup winners), who have ended their active career.
Wendl-Arlt defeated the Italian doubles’ with Christian Oberstolz-Patrick Gruber (0.086 seconds behind) and Austria’s Olympic champions Andreas Linger-Wolfgang Linger to second and third place respectively.
In the overall rankings Wendl-Arlt hold top position (430 points), 30 points ahead of Oberstolz-Gruber (400). Linger-Linger are now in third position with 346 points to their credit.
The Quotes
Tobias Arlt (GER / 2010 European silver medallist and 2008 World runner-up)
“That’s a great way to start the new year. I think we’ve now really made it into the international top teams. After Leitner-Resch have ended their career we inherited quite some parts of their material and we surely profit from this ‘inheritance’. “
Christian Oberstolz (ITA / 2008 European champion)
“It’s really not possible to beat German doubles’ on their home track.”
Andreas Linger (AUT / 2006 and 2010 Olympic champion
“After our crash in the last training session we did not want to get through the track again on our stomachs. We lose a lot of time at the start compared to Wendl-Arlt. And then it’s simply impossible to catch up to them...”
