Wendl/Arlt put an end to winning streak by Eggert/Benecken

Park City (RWH) The Olympic Champions Tobias Wendl/Tobias Arlt (GER) have ended the winning streak of Toni Eggert and Sascha Benecken in the men’s doubles event to clinch the 36th individual win of their career in the Viessmann World Cup. After taking four wins in a row, Eggert/Benecken (GER) had to settle for third place behind the Latvian brothers Andris Sics/Juris Sics at the fourth round of the race series in Park City, Utah, USA. The fifth event of the pre-Olympic winter season was shortened to a single run as a result of a heavy snow storm.
Matt Mortensen/Jayson Terdiman crossed the line in fifth place to win the America Pacific Championships for the second time, having also claimed victory in 2015.
Eggert/Benecken continue to lead the overall standings on 470 points after five events in the pre-Olympic winter season. The defending champions Wendl/Arlt are currently in second on 382 points. Another two Germans, Robin Geueke/David Gamm, currently lie third (325), having finished sixth in Park City.
Quotes
Tobias Arlt (GER / 2014 Olympic Champion and triple World Champion)
“We are slowly clawing our way back. We know what we have to do, and we’ve even taken a step back in terms of our equipment.”
Tobias Wendl (GER, 2014 Olympic Champion and triple World Champion):
“My parents always ask me why I’m so calm. It’s a good job there are no cameras in practice because you’d see that we aren’t always as calm as we might appear to be.”
Andris Sics (LAT / Olympic silver in 2010 and Olympic bronze in 2014):
“It was still an exciting race even though we only had one run. We are delighted with second place. Thanks to the track workers who did such a great job given the huge amount of snow.”
Toni Eggert (GER / World Championship silver medallist 2012, 2013 and 2016):
“We are very disappointed. We had a brilliant final training session, so we were capable of performing better than this. We were also unlucky..”
