Königssee (RWH) Tobias Wendl and Tobias Arlt of Germany have begun the new year as they ended the old: the winners of the Sprint World Cup in Calgary have won the Viessmann World Cup on their home track in Königssee for the seventh time in succession. In their 25th victory in a World Cup, the 2014 Olympic Champions beat their constant rivals and teammates, two-times World Championship runners up Toni Eggert and Sascha Benecken, down to second. Third place went to Peter Penz and Georg Fischler of Austria. Eggert-Benecken now head the overall Viessmann World Cup rankings with 570 points, followed by Wendl-Arlt with 500 and Latvia’s Andris Sics and Juris Sics, who came fourth in Königssee, with 344. The 5th race in the Viessmann World Cup will be held in Oberhof in the Thuringian Forest on 17–18 January 2015. Quotes Tobias Wendl (GER / 2014 Olympic Champion and 2013 World Champion) “It’s such fun when you come into the finish and the spectators are all cheering like mad. I wouldn’t mind every race being like this.” Toni Eggert (GER / 2012 and 2013 World Championship silver medallist) “I’m disappointed at my second run, but not at coming second in the race. It’s what I was expecting. But that second run was no good at all.” Peter Penz (2012 World Championship bronze medallist and 2012 European Champion) “We built up an amazing speed in both runs. We were definitely the fastest on the track. That’s a real confidence-booster.”
