Calgary (pps) Heavy wind helped Germany’s Tatjana Hüfners to win her second race in Viessmann Luge World Cup. On the Olympic track at Calgary (Canada), the Bronze medallist of the 2006 Olympic Winter Games in Turin captured the victory in a total time of one minute 33.649 seconds. Second place went to Silke Kraushaar-Pielach (1:33.932) followed by Anke Wischnewski (1:34.065).

Two-time Olympic Champion Sylke Otto, in the lead after the first run, was blown away from the wind. She found herself on a disappointing 21st place in the result list.

Canada’s Regan Lauscher (1:33,329) realized her second best result after winning silver two years ago in Lake Placid. Ashley Hayden, 4th at the Worlds 2004 in Park City finished 7th and captured the spot for the trip to Nagano (Japan) next week.

Quotes

Tatjana Hüfner (2006 Olympic bronze medallist)
„To be honest: The wind helped me a lot to win this race. The wind influenced the runs of Silke Kraushaar and Sylke Otto. But World Cup success is World cup success, no matter."

Silke Kraushaar-Pielach (Olympic Champion 1998)
„It is always the same story in Calgary: If Sylke and I start here, the wind comes up. There is no chance, I was lucky to get the second place.”

Anke Wischnewski (bronze medallist at the Worlds 2005)
„I had just two bad runs. I’m happy to be on the podium. “
