WOF Meets in Lausanne: Winter Sport Looks Ahead to Alpes 2030 and Utah 2034
The Winter Olympic Federations (WOF) convened in Lausanne, Switzerland, for a meeting that brought together the leaders of winter sport around two central themes: the election of a new WOF President and, above all, the road ahead to the next two Olympic Winter Games.
Over the course of the past three days, WOF members heard presentations from both the Alpes 2030 organizing team and Utah 2034 on their respective plans and vision for the Games. The exchanges were constructive and forward-looking, giving the winter sport federations an early and substantive insight into the preparations taking shape for 2030 and 2034. The WOF also received a briefing from the IOC on key initiatives currently underway for future editions of the Olympic Winter Games under the IOC's "Fit for the Future" strategy. The discussions underlined the importance of close collaboration between the international federations and the organizers from the earliest stages of planning – a principle that the FIL has actively championed.
Jae Youl Kim was elected as the new WOF President by acclamation. The ISU President and IOC Executive Board Member succeeds Ivo Ferriani and takes the helm at a pivotal moment for winter sport.
FIL President Einars Fogelis commented: "At a time of new and shared challenges, the WOF could not wish for better leadership, and I am confident that we will continue to live up to our common values – Snow and Ice, strong together. The constructive work with all our partners – the IOC, the Games organizers, the National Federations – will continue with renewed energy. And together, we will make sure that we are fit for the future."
