Lausanne (RWH) On Tuesday (11 August 2015), the International Olympic Committee (IOC) published its list of Athlete Role Models for the second Winter Youth Olympic Games in Lillehammer, Norway, in 2016. The International Luge Federation (FIL) is represented by Wolfgang Linger, who won the 2006 and 2010 Olympics in the doubles with his brother Andreas. The role of the 32-year-old Austrian, who, like his older brother, retired from the sport after winning silver at the 2014 Olympic Winter Games in Sochi (RUS), will be to inspire and support the young luge athletes competing in the Youth Olympic Games in Lillehammer from 12 to 21 February 2016. The Athlete Role Models are particularly successful athletes selected by the international federations for 15 sports, including the ice track disciplines bobsleigh, skeleton and luge. They will be on site both at the competitions and in the Olympic village to provide help and motivation to the young athletes, to answer their questions and give them helpful advice. The Athlete Role Models will also play a key role for the young athletes in the Culture and Education Programme, which focuses on Olympic values, healthy lifestyles, social responsibility, and expression through digital media.
