Lillehammer (pps/December 17, 2009) World champion Erin Hamlin is heading the US luge team for the Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver, Canada (February 12-28, 2010). Apart from the 23-year old luger, who earned a third place at the Luge World Cup event in Lillehammer, Norway, the doubles' team with Christian Niccum-Dan Joye, who finished fourth in Lillehammer, met the qualifying standards and will thus be joining Hamlin. Upon recommendation of the coaches another four athletes were nominated in Lillehammer - in the women's singles these are Julia Clukey, World Champinship fifth-placed, and in the men's singles Tony Benshoof, Bengt Walden as well as Chris Mazdzer.
Mark Grimmette-Brian Martin, the two-time Olympic medal winners (bronze in 1998 and silver in 2002) eventually prevailed over Matt Mortensen-Preston Griffal in an elimination event on the Olympic track in Lillehammer. In the women's singles Megan Sweeney won the internal selection against her younger sister Emily as well as against former junior World champion Kate Hansen.
