Innsbruck-Igls (pps) While Olympic Champion Tatjana Huefner of Germany made a comeback after her back injury, posting a second-place finish, team mate Natalie Geisenberger celebrated her 18th career World Cup victory. At the second stop of the Viessmann Luge World Cup series in the Olympic winter, Geisenberger set track records in both runs on the Olympic track in Innsbruck-Igls (Austria) and thus earned her second victory this winter after her success at the season opener in Lillehammer (Norway) last week. The 25-year-old was the most successful luger in last year’s women’s singles, earned gold medals at the World and European Championships and – as the icing on the cake - became overall Viessmann Luge World Cup winner.
Four-time World Champion Tatjana Huefner achieved a second-place finish behind Geisenberger, confirming her claim to compete in the upcoming Olympic Winter Games in Sochi (Russia) on February 7-23, 2014. Anke Wischnewski (Germany) finished in third place, followed by Dajana Eitberger (GER/fourth place), Nina Reithmayer (AUT/fifth place), Erin Hamlin (USA/sixth place) and Alex Gough (CAN/seventh place).

“It’s great to see that I can even improve my performance in the second run. Well, the start into the n
ew season could have been worse… I really fought hard in the second run. After a rather week performance in Lillehammer, the German team made a clean sweep here. But of course this doesn’t mean that it will be this way for the rest of the season.”
Tatjana Huefner (GER / 2010 Olympic Champion, 2006 Olympic bronze medalist, four-time W
orld Champion)
“Well, it still works… It was very important to reinforce my self-confidence. Things are looking up.”
Anke Wischnewski (GER / 2007 World bronze medalist, 5th at the 2010 Olympic Games)
“Posting a third-place finish clearly shows that things are looking up for me. Bearing in mind that I made a mistake at the start of the second run, today’s result is even more valuable.”
