Winterberg (pps) World Champions Tobias Wendl-Tobias Arlt of Germany celebrated their second win in the Olympic season after their success at the World Cup opener in Lillehammer (Norway), thus claiming their 19th individual victory. At the Viessmann Luge World Cup in Winterberg (Germany), the defending champions defeated Christian Oberstolz-Patrick Gruber of Italy to second place. Peter Penz-Georg Fischler of Austria and Ludwig Rieder-Patrick Rastner of Italy were tied on third place. It was the 33rd consecutive success in the everlasting duel of German-Austrian doubles’ wins. The last time a different national national flag was hoisted for the winner at the victory ceremony was on January 9, 2010 when Christian Oberstolz-Patrick Gruber took the podium’s top spot at the World Cup in Winterberg. Of the 33 victories, German doubles teams have now collected 21 wins, including the top podium finish of Wendl-Arlt in Winterberg. Last year’s World Cup winners Andreas Linger-Wolfgang Linger of Austria did not compete in Winterberg due to personal reasons. Wendl-Arlt are the sole leaders in the overall Viessmann Luge World Cup rankings with 285 points to their credits. Tied on second place with 205 points each are Oberstolz-Gruber of Italy and Germany’s doubles of Toni Eggert-Sascha Benecken. Due to FIL regulations Eggert-Benecken earned 20 points despite a crash in the second run in Winterberg. Quotes Tobias Wendl (GER / 2013 World Champions, overall Viessmann World Cup winner in 2010-2011 and 2012-2013) “Lately, we faced tough conditions. Today again. Unfortunately Eggert-Benecken had a crash - otherwise the race would have been more exciting. Hopefully, the two didn’t suffer any injuries.”
