World Championship's track gets fresh ice - Oberhof to be iced again for the new year

Oberhof

Oberhof (FIL/TWZ 05.01.23) The ice in the LOTTO Thüringen EISARENA Oberhof, venue of the upcoming 51st FIL World Championships from January 23 to 29, 2023, will be rebuilt in the coming days.

The responsible persons of the Zweckverband Thüringer Wintersportzentrum Oberhof (TWZ) informed in a press release: "The ice quality during the German Luge Championships and in training operations in the previous week has shown that the cooling control system still requires fine-tuning, especially in warm and changing weather conditions - after the comprehensive reconstruction of the track. We want to make the conditions for the athletes as good as possible for the World Championships as well as for the training operation in the junior area and have therefore decided to re-ice the track in order to obtain an optimal track profile. This will be done this week. We expect that if everything goes according to plan, the first runs will be possible again by the middle of next week at the latest. It is unfortunate that there will be a loss of practice time. However, we will do everything we can to make up for this accordingly."
