WM Eröffnung 2023

Oberhof (FIL/26 Jan 2023) The 51st FIL Luge World Championships were officially opened on Thursday evening with a laser and multimedia show as well as various shows, speeches and presentations. FIL President Einars Fogelis and Thuringia's Prime Minister Bodo Ramelow gave the starting signal for the World Championships on the Medal Plaza in the centre of Oberhof.

A highlight was the personal, musically accompanied welcoming of the national teams from 20 nations.

From Friday to Sunday, 143 athletes will be competing for nine World Championship titles on the newly designed track in the LOTTO Thüringen EisArena Oberhof.

Thuringia's Prime Minister Bodo Ramelow was among the numerous athletes and celebrities at the opening ceremony. "I wish everyone fair competitions, good successes and, as Thuringia's Minister President, I hope to win one or two medals from our athletes," Ramelow said proudly.
