On Friday the nations training was on the program on the „Grantau-track“ in Umhausen (AUT). In both runs the favorites have already indicated that they will be on fire at the 23rd FIL Luge World Championships on natural track from Saturday on.

In the women’s single defending Champion Evelin Lanthaler (ITA) set the best time in the second training run in 1.14.29 minutes, while in the first run her teammate Greta Pinggera (World Champion 2017) was ahead in 1.15.07 minutes. Tina Unterberger (AUT/ 1.15.34 minutes) and Ekaterina Lavrenteva (1.50.20 minutes) from the Russian Luge Federation RLF also set an exclamation point.
In the men's single top favorite Thomas Kammerländer (AUT) set the pace with best time in both training runs. With a time of 1.13.33 minutes he was 0.14 seconds faster than defending champion Alex Gruber (ITA) in the first run; in the second run, Kammerlander in 1.12.75 minutes was the only athlete below the magic mark of 1,13 minutes. Patrick Pigneter (ITA/+0,50 sec.) follows in second place. Overall World Cup winner Michael Scheikl (AUT) finished the training runs on ranks three and four.
In the doubles Patrick Pigneter/Florian Clara (ITA) made clear that they want to defend their title. In both training runs Pigneter/Clara set the best time (1.17.50 minutes/1.18.11 minutes). In the first training session the European Champions Patrick Lambacher/Matthias Lambacher finished second (+0.91 seconds). Behind them were four pairings (Regensburger/Holzknecht, Achenrainer/Achenrainer, Egorov/Popov and Kovshik/Tarasov) within 0.10 seconds. In the second training run the places of honor took Stanislav Kovshik/Ilia Tarasov (RLF/+ 0.29 seconds) and the Austrians Fabian Achenrainer/Simon Achenrainer (+0.38 seconds).
