Due to the lack of snow in Slovenia the FIL Luge World Cup on Natural Track had to be relocated from Zelezniki (SLO) to Laas (ITA). Therefore, after five years Laas is coming back to World Cup from February 7th to 9th.
The track in Laas is already in a race-ready condition, as the FIL Junior World Cup was held on the „Gafair“-track in mid-January. Thus, for the first time since January 2015, a FIL Luge World Cup on Natural Track takes place in Laas. Five years ago, Ekaterina Lavrenteva (RUS) won in Women’s single ahead of Evelin Lanthaler (ITA) and Sara Bachmann (then ITA, now GER). In the men's single victory went to Patrick Pigneter (ITA) ahead of Alex Gruber (ITA) and Thomas Kammerlander (AUT). In doubles Aleksandr Egorov/Petr Popov (RUS) prevailed against Rupert Brüggler/Tobias Angerer (AUT/now retired) and Patrick Pigneter/Florian Clara (ITA).

The "Gafair"-Track in Laas
After five competitions in men’s single four athletes are competing for the leadership in the overall World Cup standing: Thomas Kammerlander (415 points), Patrick Pigneter (395), Alex Gruber (390) and Michael Scheikl (AUT) on fourth position with 370 points.
