The FIL Luge World Cup on Natural Track on December 21st and 22nd in Winterleiten had to be cancelled due to weather conditions. After the track inspection on Thursday the local organizers took this decision together with the representatives of the FIL. The World Cup opening in Winterleiten will take place on January 3rd-5th 2020.

The reason for the cancellation is the very mild temperature in Styria. Warm foehn wind has been providing plus degrees 24 hours for days and the weather forecasts for the coming days does not see  a significant drop of the temperatures either. The ice on the track is very thin and softened in some places, the track would not be able to withstand the stress of training runs and races. "We discussed all the options and came to the decision that a cancellation is inevitable," explains Andreas Castiglioni, FIL Director for Sport and Technology Natural Track.
