Umhausen (ck) - The final world cup race in Umhausen will be held in the same, new, still being tested format which has been introduced in the world cup opening in Latzfons. World cup spots will be limited and the top athletes in each category will be seeded. In the men’s event Patrick Pigneter (ITA) has won the overall ranking already, but the places behind him are still contested. With the new format, in which a qualification run decides who is allowed to start in the world cup, valuable points are easily lost. Hannes Clara (ITA) knows very well how quickly that can happen, he failed the qualification in Latzfons. With his consistent good performance throughout the season he still managed to climb up to the second place in the overall world cup and is pre-qualified for the world cup. The seeding list is based on the last three world cup races and next to Patrick Pigneter and Hannes Clara also Alex Gruber (ITA), Michael Scheikl (AUT) and World Champion Gerald Kammerlander (AUT) made it on the list. In the women’s event the three athletes who usually share the podium are also seeded: Ekatharina Lavrentjeva (RUS), Renate Gietl (ITA) and Melanie Batkowski (AUT). Lavrentjeva could technically still lose the overall ranking, but this can only happen if Renate Gietl (ITA) wins the race and Ekatharina Lavrentjeva scores less than 10 points. The most exciting world cup decision will be seen in the doubles’ event in which currently the Russians Pavel Porshnev/Ivan Lazarev are leading ahead of Patrick Pigneter/Florian Clara (ITA) with a 30 points margin. Pavel Porshnev/Ivan Lazarev have won the overall ranking in the seasons 2002/03 and 2003/04, since the winter 2007/08 Pignter/Clara have always won the overall world cup. Additionally seeded are Christian Schatz/Gerhard Mühlbacher (AUT) who are currently ranked third in the world cup. The world cup final will be held at spring like temperatures which according to the technical officials will not harm the track. To be on the safe said all starting times have been pushed later into the afternoon and evening hours to avoid the most intense sunshine.
