Würz Energy World Cup continues in Unterammergau (GER) Unterammergau (ck) - The Würz Energy World Cup goes into its final phase with the two remaining stops in Unterammergau (GER) next weekend and the world cup final in Olang (ITA) in two weeks. If Ekatharina Lavrentjeva (RUS) wins one more time she can already secure her sixth consecutive overall world cup win, the eighth in her career, as the currently second ranked Melanie Batkowski (AUT) would end up more than 100 points behind the Russian. Before Unterammergau Batkowski stands at 310 points, 90 less than Lavrentjeva. World Champion Renate Gietl is third with 295 points. In the men’s event Patrick Pigneter (ITA) will not give up his sixth overall world cup win, even though he has been a bit more challenged this year than in the previous winters. With Rudi Resch (ITA) and the new World Champion Gerald Kammerlander (AUT) there have been two new winners in the last races. Pigneter still leads in the World Cup with 385 points ahead of Robert Batkowski (AUT/274) and Rudi Resch (246). With another win Pigneter will be the overall winter already. Just like every year the doubles event is the most contested. Pigneter/Clara and Porshnev/Lazarev (RUS) are tied in leading position. Schopf/Schopf (AUT) can also play a role in the final decision if they can repeat their good performance from earlier in this season. Exciting racing days can be expected. The event in Unterammergau will start with training runs on Friday and the doubles’ competition on Saturday. Single events will be held on Sunday.
