Würz Energy World Cup Show-Down in Olang/Valdaora (ITA) Olang/Valdaora (ck) - Patrick Pigneter (ITA) has already secured his sixth overall World Cup title in the single event. Ekatharina Lavrentjeva (RUS) can almost call the eighth overall title her own: even with a win in Olang Renate Gietl (ITA) would have a hard time outscoring the Russian. She needs only ten points and the title is hers. Only in the double’s event the last race of the season will be the tie breaker. Currently Patrick Pigneter/Florian Clara (ITA) have a 20 points head start, but Pavel Porschnev/Ivan Lazarev (RUS) are not defeated yet. Olang/Valdaora in northern Italy which has hosted World as well as European Championships in the past and is a well known natural track center, will be the site of the final show down. A similar close duel with be seen for the third place. Christian Schopf/Andreas Schopf (AUT) have a 20 points leading margin ahead of Christian Schatz/Gerhard Mühlbacher (AUT). In the men’s singles event only 37 points lay between the third and the sixth place. Currently Rudi Resch (ITA) is ranked third, followed by Anton Blasbichler (ITA), Thomas Schopf (AUT) and Michael Scheikl (AUT). Ekatharina Lavrentjeva can in theory still lose her title, but in real life two times world champion Renate Gietl (ITA) will most likely have to settle for the second place, which could still be contested by Melanie Batkowski (AUT). The Austrian will come to Olang with 15 points less than Gietl.
