President Fendt and Secretary General Romstad to represent FIL London (pps) President Josef Fendt of Germany and Secretary General Svein Romstad of the USA will be representing the International Luge Federation (FIL) at the XXX Summer Olympic Games in London, where they will be cultivating their close relationship with the International Olympic Committee (IOC). The duo also plans to attend the Opening Ceremony on 27 July. This will be the third time that the British capital hosts the Summer Olympics after 1909 and 1948. The Games run to 12 August 2012, and around 10,500 athletes from 204 nations will be taking part. Add to this a 7,500-strong support staff (coaches, doctors, officers), 3,000 judges, referees and officials, and 70,000 volunteers. 21,000 media representatives will be reporting live from the Summer Games. Medals will be awarded in a total of 302 disciplines in 26 sports. Official figures published by the London Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games (LOCOG) set the cost of the Games at EUR 11.5 billion, EUR 8.5 billion of which were used to build the sports venues.
