Berlin (pps) After the end of his career as the most successful luge athlete of all times, Georg Hackl from Berchtesgaden, Germany, is again honored with an award. Georg Hackl will receive the Award for Tolerance and Fair Play in Sport offered by the German Federal Minister of the Interior in Munich on October 27.

According to the invitation from the Feral Ministry of the Interior in Berlin, the 40 years old Bavarian is recognized for his athletic „lifework characterized by tolerance and fair play in sports, following a suggestion from the German sport community”. Hackl will receive the award from the hands of the Minister of the Interior Wolfgang Schäuble and Germany’s National Ambassador for Sport, Tolerance and Fair Play, Rosi Mittermaier-Neureuther, two-time Olympic champion in alpine skiing, on the occasion of the „Fest der Begegnung“ festival staged by the “Deutsche Sporthilfe” foundation in Munich.

In addition to his three Olympic gold medals (1992, 1994 and 1998) Georg Hackl won Olympic silver twice (1988 and 2002) as well as three gold medals at World Championships (1989, 1991 and 1997). After his sixth participation in Olympic Winter Games in Turin in 2006, the federal soldier finished his career as a luge athlete and now, in addition to studying at the coaches’ academy in Cologne, Germany, works as a coach for the German federation (BSD).
